The Oberoi MV Vrinda
The Oberoi Motor Vessel Vrinda is the Oberoi Groups answer to doing a rice boat journey. The Vrinda is a stunning pontoon boat that is located in the Kerala Back waters, an area local refer to as “Gods Own Country”. Kerala is recognized around the world for its lush vegetation, relaxed culture, and delicious seafood. The major draw for visitors in Kerala is the back waters, small rivers that link various bodies of water together and create waterways for boats to travel. Originally these water ways were used to transport rice from the rice patty fields to the towns, but has since given way to tourism and the area now offers travellers stunning scenery and relaxed river cruises to give you the highest levels of rest & relaxation.
The MV Vrinda is in a class of its self. Vrinda is the largest vessel in the Kerala backwaters and unquestionably the most luxurious. From large private bedrooms with king size beds, flat screen TV’s, and full ensuite bathrooms, it takes rice boat cruising to an entirely new level. The MV Vrinda has only 8 staterooms creating a very intimate stay and is perfect for families and friends who travel in a group as they can easily take the entire boat!
The MV Vrinda has several public area’s for guests to enjoy; the outside sitting area, the dining room, and the roof top deck. We found all of these areas inviting and comfortable, but watching the sunset from the roof top deck was something awe-inspiring!
All dining is on board the MV Vrinda, and it is something that can not be missed! The small kitchen produces astounding, gourmet dishes that one would never dream possible on a river cruise. From King Prawns that look more like lobsters, to banana pancakes, and even a special traditional Kerala meal served on a Banana leaf and comprised of 7 different dishes, they can literally produce anything. The chef (and manager) prides himself on the fact that they only use local foods and go down to the market every morning to select the best catch of the day.
During your stay you will be treated to several excursions off the of the MV Vrinda as well. While the MV Vrinda is lovely, it is a bit too large to travel down all the canals, so Oberoi have purchased a traditional rice boat just for their guests to enjoy. These journeys take you to local villages where you can visit one of the area’s oldest churches and you can experience some of the local culture. On your return voyage to the MV Vrinda, relax with some watermelon juice or perhaps a Kingfisher beer as you slowly travel down the back waters.
The Oberoi MV Vrinda is a truly unique experience on the back waters of Kerala. Please contact us about how we can add this magical journey into your itinerary.
